Amy Jones, the very talented singer songwriter was born 4 March 1993 and raised in the town of Paarl. During Amy’s High School years, she was chosen to be part of the South African Youth Choir (SAYC) as well as the Stellenberg Girls Choir (SMK conducted by André van der Merwe). Post schooling Amy’s music career received its first boost when she reached the final 16 of SA Idols Season 9. This experience left her with the burning passion to forge a career for herself in music, both locally and internationally.
In association with Jirah Productions and Lee Willcock (manager since 2016), she created a new look, both musically and image-wise, recording her debut single “Sunrise” with Cape Town’s rising producer, Colin Sher, and releasing it nationally in October 2016, to critical acclaim from radio and her Fans. The single secured play-listings on a number of radio stations countrywide and also brought her the opportunity to perform live on Expresso’s morning show, as well as being invited to perform at the “The Weekender” festival alongside an array of high level South African Artists.
With the single still riding high into the first 2 months of 2017, Amy began recording her follow-up single, also Produced by Colin. “Burn” launched onto the radio-waves capturing play-listings from Jacaranda, Groot FM, Matie FM, Heart FM and garnered “Chamberlains Hot Hits of the week”. A string of live shows followed (including a sellout headline in her hometown of Paarl), further concreting Amy’s name as a rising star in SA Music, rubber-stamped with over 100,000 views of her video, via social media, in the space of the first 5 days.
Amy’s 3rd single, “Forget the day”, which has just been released to the market, is a collaboration with Caleb Williams and produced by Cape Town’s very own Ameen Harron. Moving into the Urban “space” this great Pop song has been given the Ameen Harron dance treatment, opening-up Amy’s appeal to a wider audience and already the feedback from the initial radio spins received has been a definite thumbs up. 5fm gave the record an ‘exclusive’ first airing, with the other stations all following in fast pursuit.
Aside from her solo shows around the Cape, Amy has been invited to perform alongside and with a plethora of highly established SA Artists, from Matthew Gold, to Vicky Samson, from Francois van Coke to Jo Black and includes the “GHFM United Hope Initiative”, where Amy shared the stage with Kyle Deutsch, Dominic Neil, New Hero to name but a few. Her most humbling experience so far, was a special invite from Mi Casa, to be their opening act at their V&A grand Africa show in September.
Amy however remains grounded, leading the worship team on Sundays at her local church, where God is her main focus and her foundation in life. Giving up is never an option, as she strives to make her music her passion as well as an inspiration for others.
Amy and her team are looking forward to closing the year on another high, paving the way for more incredible music in 2018, more live shows and following her dream to it’s full fruition and glory.
